Tomorrow, June 4th is publication day for my new book, BOYMOM, Reimagining Boyhood in the Age of Impossible Masculinity. The book is a mix of memoir ( I’m a feminist with three sons and lots of conflicted feelings!) cultural analysis and reporting about what it means to be a boy and to raise a boy in our deeply fraught political and cultural moment. I dig into where we are going wrong with male socialization, and what we can do differently, but it is not just for parents of sons. The book is relevant for all parents and indeed anyone who is interested in gender, feminism, the cultural forces bearing down on all teenagers and the roots of some of our most urgent social problems. Order the US version here from your preferred place. or the UK version here. Or if audio is more your thing, I also read the audio version.
An Amazon Best Nonfiction Book for June
“One of the most thought-provoking books I have read as a parent”- The Times
“Utterly fascinating”- Guardian and Grazia columnist, Gaby Hinsliff
“A captivating work of cultural criticism”- Publishers’ Weekly starred review.
4th June is also the publication day for BOYMOM’s British twin brother (sister?) BOYMUM, Raising Boys in the Age of Toxic Masculinity- which is the UK version of the same book with some additional UK content. ( THIS VERSION IS FOR YOU IF YOU DRINK TOO MUCH TEA AND CALL YOUR MOTHER “MUM”. Order it here!)
I would be so delighted if you would pre-order the book here if you are in the States or here if you are in the UK (or go buy it in your local bookstore tomorrow.)
Other ways to support the book release:
Spread the word! Share on social media, tell your friends about it, choose it for your book club, forward this email to anyone you think might be interested etc etc. All of this word of mouth publicity makes a huge difference.
Leave me a review on Amazon (you don’t have to have bought the book there- you can review any time after June 4th and it really helps!) or Goodreads (you can leave that any time from now)
Come to one of my events! Thank you so much. I truly appreciate your support.
Hi Ruth, I just finished reading your interview with Ann Helen Peterson and hopped over here to say what a fine and balanced understanding you presented there. What a good read to find on Father’s Day morning!
